Francis Parker School is an elite college preparatory independent day school in San Diego, California. In 2003-2004 Rudolph & Sletten, inc. contracted with DA Whitacre Construction Inc. to perform work on the new buildings which total 53,000 square foot. The work included framing & exterior Brazilian redwood siding for a new library/science building, new classrooms and a computer lab as well as renovation of the administrative offices. The buildings redwood siding comes from a sustainable managed forest in Brazil. It visually recalls the redwood and western red cedar that clad so many coastal California structures, with the added benefit of exceptional durability. The siding is 8 times harder than redwood or western red cedar. It is also decay, insect and fire resistant.
